Art Meets Fashion

Have you ever just looked at a piece of artwork and just been truly moved? Did it speak to from the depths of soul and rock you to the core? Are you someone who can take artwork and channel your true style? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I’m here to tell you that you missed out on a very unique event Sunday April 7th.  I know you’re asking right now “Tee, what is this you speak of?” Well my dears it was “Art Meets Fashion, an amazing collaboration of a phenomenal local artist’s paintings, a superb stylist’s creations, hairstyles and tips by remarkable hair stylists, let’s not forget some impeccable make-up artistry, and of course the lovely models, Joyce and Ebony.

Let me start by saying I absolutely, positively love Art in any form or fashion, and though my style is “Simple with a lil kick”, I always appreciate all that is unique, funky, and fresh. Let me get into the stars of this event.

The Artist and Her Art: Chidinma Dureke(ChiChi), holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Painting. She is not talented but truly gifted in her craft. ChiChi’s artwork has even been featured in the Washington Post, which to me is pretty dang impressive…GO ChiChi!!!! When I walked into Maisie Dunbar Spa Lounge on Sunday afternoon, ready to lend a hand, I literally stopped dead in my tracks when I saw all of the artwork. There were oil paintings, mixed media art, and even a few pieces of “oil on wood”. Chidinma’s artwork truly speaks for, to, and through many of color.

The Fashion Stylist: Cathy Eastman is what I would call a stylist of life…yup, I said life. Like many Cathy had an entire career before she decided to follow her passion in fashion, style, and creativity. I’ve met her on multiple occasions through her AMAZING sister, the one and only Maisie Dunabar (passion, dedication, and love run deep in this family’s blood), and every time I see Cathy, hear her speak, or simply in her presence there is a certain lightness in the air. Her spirit is genuine and flows through her creative styling.

The Hair Stylist: Khadija Harris and Tucci Ford of First Avenue Hair Design, these two are amazing when it comes to putting flair in a hairstyle. One of my fellow bloggers and “big sisters” (Nae Carter http://www.ichoosethesun.com) has practically a standing appointment every week and they always do a phenomenal job. For Art Meets Fashion Khadija and Tucci made Art through the hairstyles on the models. Tucci created a light and airy head of colorful curls that can be worn loose or pinned up for a lil’ spice n flair for his model, and Khadija took her model’s twists and made an amazing Up-Do with additional color hued braids.

This dynamic duo brings forth life, energy, and style to the hair community.

Last but definitely not least, Bluffa Jo Cosmetics. With the leadership of Ms. Maisie Dunbar, the two make-up artist who created the fresh, springy looks were Nicole and Winnie. For Ebony and Joyce both the look was a very natural with a touch of color, nothing too dramatic but definitely fresh for Spring. Ebony and Joyce both wore Zorro (reddish-pink tint) Lip-gloss by Bluffa Jo. Here’s a little background on Maisie’s make-up line:
